Join us for a Q&A and then a rousing discussion led by JMS as he details his career and tips about working in Hollywood.
In his nearly thirty-year career, JMS has worked for some of the top directors and producers in Hollywood. The breath and depth of his screenwriting and producing career is vast; but his skills extend even further into novels, short stories, comic books, journalism - just about anything and everything you can imagine a writer to be, he is.
His movie "Changeling" starring Angelina Jolie was a critical and commercial smash. Directed by superstar Clint Eastwood, it details the true story about a shameful moment in Los Angeles history.
He currently has five films in production including "Lensman" for Academny Award winning director Ron Howard.
In a recent interview, JMS has stated: "I always knew that I was going to be a writer. There was no question in my mind about that. I wrote my first short story in high school. That day I wrote 10 pages, and the next day I wrote 10 pages... and I've been writing 10 pages ever since – to my current age.
Emmy, Hugo, Saturn, Eisner and Bradbury Award Winner / BAFTA (British Academy Award) nominee.

DID YOU KNOW?
There is cinema history just down the street from you...
The Lido Theater in Newport Beach / Balboa was built in 1938 and the ladies bathroom was designed by film legend Bette Davis so the "women could smoke in their own lounge?"
The Lido is a most special theater. Surrounded by it's fine art deco architecture, with a new digital 3D projector (the only one in Newport Beach,) a new, actual silver screen, and a spanking new sound system that is insanely thunderous but perfectly clean, seeing a movie here is truly a total film experience.
It's also one of the few theaters that still features a 200 seat balcony which is just nuts in today's stadium seating world.
If you really want an old school theater experience (with a state-of-the-art presentation and 622 seats) there is no better place than the The Lido Theater, 3459 Via Lido, Newport Beach, CA 92663 949.673.8350.
The Lido is recognized by Newport Beach as historical architecture. You can read more about it here if you're interested.
We at OCSWA are proud to be associated with the Regency Theater chain who run the historic Lido Theater and give us our venue for our meetings at the South Coast Village Theater in Santa Ana - one of the few movie art houses in Orange County.
And opening soon, a state-of-the-art, immersive and elegant movie experience in San Juan Capistrano. The Regency Franciscan Plaza Theater. link
A SEMESTER IN CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND THROUGH ORANGE COAST COLLEGE.
It's the land of the Bard and it's more beautiful than you can imagine. Only hours away from most European destinations. Learn and have fun at the same time - seriously.
CAMBRIDGE WEBSITE HERE.
Living in England for six weeks while working on a novel or screenplay doesn’t sound too bad, does it?
Second, there’s the whole “cultural experience” thing. Classes are held only Monday through Thursday, and each course has only two meetings a week.
So, if you’re taking one class (which is all that is required), you will have ample opportunity to travel, either around England or on mainland Europe.
To enhance that experience, there are several trips planned, including one to London and optional ones to York and Paris.
Third, and most important, the overall experience is unlike anything you may have done before. Classes are smaller, so the academic experience is much more personal. Close friendships are formed. And there are many optional group activities that have been very popular in the past, including coed basketball, weekly movie nights, pizza parties, and so forth. There’s lots to do and plenty of great people to do it with.

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.
